Flow Automation EIE

Note: If you are setting up new Thermo Scientific devices and want to use Modbus messaging only, use the Thermo EIE; it provides Modbus messaging functionality for Thermo Scientific devices supported by CygNet.

The Flow Automation EIE supports native and Modbus protocol functionality for AutoMATE and AutoPILOT devices. Although the Flow Automation native protocol is more efficient than Modbus for most messaging tasks with this driver, Modbus can be used for extensibility in cases where the native driver cannot. Native and Modbus templates exist for this EIE; data groups can be exchanged between them, but not all data group elements within these data groups can be exchanged.

The Flow Automation EIE was designed to support standard firmware. However, it does provide some support for custom protocol derivatives like Coastal. If you request data for an unsupported data group or element, you might receive an error message from the device or an n/a value.

Plunger lift control for AutoMATE and AutoPILOT devices is supported only with the native protocol. You must first configure connected field devices to support plunger lift. Then, use the "RTU Configuration" data group in your Flow Automation device editor to retrieve plunger lift configuration data from the field device(s). Finally, configure the "Auto Plunger," "Flow Plunger," or "Manual Plunger" data groups appropriately.
